Sugar Grove is a village of about 372 residents (2020 census) in Berne Township, southeastern Fairfield County, roughly 30 miles southeast of downtown Columbus and bordering the city of Lancaster directly. It was incorporated in 1851 along a canal route that once carried goods as part of Ohio's early transportation network, and sits at the confluence of Rush Creek and the Hocking River — a location that also gives it its long-standing reputation as the "gateway to the Hocking Hills" for travelers headed toward that region's parks and scenery. The village takes its name from a stand of sugar maple trees that grew near the original settlement.

Sugar Grove remains a small, close-knit community today, supporting a local barber shop, a bar and grill, a family-owned grocery store, three churches, and its own U.S. Post Office.
