London is the county seat of Madison County, established in 1811 and sitting roughly 25 miles southwest of downtown Columbus along US-42 and I-70. It's the largest city in Madison County by a wide margin, with a population estimated near 11,000, and it functions as the county's hub for local government, schools, and healthcare rather than as a bedroom suburb of Columbus. London is home to Madison Health, a 107-bed hospital at 210 N. Main Street that provides inpatient, emergency, and surgical care for the surrounding rural county, and to the Madison County Senior Center, which has offered meals, exercise programs, and social activities for county seniors since 1976.
