Ashley is a village of about 1,198 residents (2020 census) on the northern edge of Delaware County, close enough to Marion County that it functions as a small independent community between the two county seats rather than a Columbus-facing suburb. It was platted in 1849, named for L.W. Ashley, one of the site's original landowners, and prospered early on thanks to the first railroad line between Cincinnati and Cleveland passing directly through — a role reflected today in the village's compact, historically railroad-oriented layout.

Ashley is larger and more self-contained than many of the small villages we cover, with its own downtown core and services, though it remains well outside the newer suburban growth concentrated in southern Delaware County around Powell.
