Is There a State Veterans Home Near Columbus?

No — the State of Ohio operates two Ohio Veterans Homes, one in Sandusky (near Lake Erie, about two hours north of Columbus) and one in Georgetown (in far southwestern Ohio, near Cincinnati, roughly two and a half hours from Columbus), and neither is within the Columbus metro area. Both offer nursing home and, at Sandusky, domiciliary and rehabilitation care specifically for eligible Ohio veterans, but the distance means many central Ohio veteran families end up choosing a private-market assisted living, memory care, or nursing facility closer to home instead, then layering in VA benefits like Aid and Attendance to help cover the cost. Franklin County veterans and their families can also work with the Franklin County Veterans Service Commission for benefits guidance and, in some cases, help evaluating whether a trip to one of the state homes makes sense for a particular situation versus care closer to family in Columbus.
