Are There LGBTQ+-Friendly Senior Living Options in Columbus?
As of this writing, we did not find a senior living community in the Columbus area that is purpose-built or specifically marketed as LGBTQ+ senior housing — Ohio's first such community, "A Place for Us," opened on the Cleveland/Lakewood border, not in central Ohio. That doesn't mean Columbus-area families have no options: SAGE (Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders) maintains a national directory and offers SAGECare, a training and credentialing program that some Ohio senior care organizations — including Ohio's Hospice, which holds SAGECare's Platinum credential — have completed to demonstrate LGBTQ+-competent staff training. When evaluating any Columbus community, ask directly whether staff have received LGBTQ+ cultural-competency training, whether the community has a written non-discrimination policy that names sexual orientation and gender identity, and whether same-sex couples can share a residence on the same terms as any other couple. We verify facility claims against operator websites per our editorial standards and will update this page if a Columbus-specific option is confirmed.
