What's the Difference Between an Adult Day Program and Assisted Living?

An adult day program is a daytime-only setting: participants attend for structured activities, meals, and — in a medical-model program — some clinical support, then return home each evening, usually to a family caregiver, or in some cases to living independently. Assisted living, by contrast, is full-time, 24/7 residential care inside an Ohio-licensed residential care facility, where a senior actually lives rather than visits. In practice, day programs tend to fit a senior who's safe to be on their own or with family overnight but benefits from daytime supervision, structure, and social engagement, or whose family caregiver needs coverage during work hours.
